I am a speech-language pathologist at an integrated preschool in Watertown, NY. I love working with children but have tutored adults in ESL, including the language, customs, money, even television shows and idioms. I have also tutored college students looking for assistance with communicative disorders coursework- particularly; phonetics, child language development, autism, craniofacial disorders and anatomy. I work with special needs children currently but have tutored regular education children as well. I have tutored reading readiness and assisted children to gain the edge needed for the next school year. I currently have my initial New York teaching license, and I have my New York state professional license in speech-language pathology. I also have a TESOL certification.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I am a speech-language pathologist at an integrated preschool. I work with children ages 2-5 with a myriad of disabilities. I have also worked at a summer camp for people of all ages with physical and mental disabilities. My student teacher semester was spent at the Rochester City Schools with 2 classrooms of children with autism. I have run social skill groups for students with Aspergers in graduate school. I currently work with children with PDD-NOS and Aspergers.
I have taken SPED 510 (Autism Spectrum Disorders) at Binghamton University, have taken a class at East Stroudsburg dealing with speech pathology and autism. I also attended the National Autism Conference last year at Penn State.

Autism

I am a speech-language pathologist at an integrated preschool. I work with children ages 2-5 with a myriad of disabilities. I have also worked at a summer camp for people of all ages with physical and mental disabilities. My student teacher semester was spent at the Rochester City Schools with 2 classrooms of children with autism. I have run social skill groups in graduate school and cannot imagine working with any other population.

Phonics

I am a New York State licensed speech-language pathologist. As part of my coursework in undergraduate and graduate studies, I studied phonetics, as well as literacy. During my work at a preschool, I assist my students in letter knowledge and the alphabetic principle (that different letters have different sounds). I have also previously tutored children and college students in phonics, sounding words out and working on articulation to correctly pronounce the sounds.

Special Needs

I am a speech-language pathologist at an integrated preschool. I work with children ages 2-5 with a myriad of disabilities. I have taken SPED 510 (Autism Spectrum Disorders) at Binghamton University, have taken a class at East Stroudsburg dealing with speech pathology and autism. I also attended the National Autism Conference last year at Penn State. While autism is clearly a huge interest for me, I completed my thesis on cleft lip and palate, have attended workshops on Down's Syndrome and continue to learn every day with the kids I work with.

Speech

I am a New York State licensed speech-language pathologist. I am currently waiting for the national certification to be completed by ASHA, then I will also have my CCC's. I have completed student teaching, graduate school, a hospital externship with neurological rehabilitation and currently work with preschoolers and birth-3. I love speech and have assisted ESL students at SUNY Geneseo with reading aloud, speaking, idioms, jokes etc... I also treat articulation (sound) disorders, pragmatic disorders (social skills), phonological processes, traumatic brain injury, a number of birth defects and syndromes, swallowing, auditory processing disorder, PECS, AAC- just to name a few! I feel that every human being should be able to communicate in one way or another and that communication is the fundamental that makes us human. I am not fluent in sign language but do use it with my students frequently and can use basic signs, I can also set up picture schedules and picture communication systems.

Spelling

With a background in speech-language pathology, I am able to assist students in their ability to hear and recognize various sounds. Correct spelling is incredibly important in many professions as well as in school. I have tutored children in spelling while in graduate school and have created some games and books to use to make the monotony of spelling more interesting.

TOEFL

I currently have a TESOL certification and have tutored adult students in English as a second language.

Today during my tutoring session, we worked on articulation skills of th voiced and voiceless, v, z, o and ae sounds via word lists. We also worked on articulation by reading through a scientific article on mindfulness meditation. I recommended to her that she listen to some books on tape to work on prosody. We will continue to work on these skills during our weekly sessions. I will also email... read more

I had my first visit with a new student today. She seems like she is a lot of fun, she is worried about her ability to speak and write in English when she begins classes in the fall. She has good articulation though her sentences run together and could be difficult to understand. We are working on the th (voiced and voiceless), z, v, ae and ou sounds to help increase her intelligibility to... read more
