“Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn, and you will.” –Vernon Howard
I have been a certified educator in Nevada since the spring of 2011, but my interest in learning was coaxed out of me by powerful influences. If it weren't for these influential people I could easily have gone down other roads. I grew up in a poorer home, but my mother got a student loan and worked through medical school. She earned her medical degree when I was about 6. I have always admired her for that. She pushed me hard to succeed, even when I fought her. Eventually I wanted to be like her in some important way. I wasn't attracted to medicine, but I always wanted to have a career helping others somehow. I took my two passions and put them together. I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
Since I began teaching in 2011 I have been introduced to every kind of student. Every day has taught me something new about myself as an educator and as a learner. I've learned what ages get embarrassed, which ones are outgoing, which ones are moody, and with each group I've been able to alter my teaching style. I am a social studies person by degree, but I can help a student improve in any subject with organization, and study skills. I love what I do. Helping people learn new things continues to be one of my life's main motivations.
