I have a professional certification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) from the TEFL Institute, Chicago, Ill. In 2010, I taught ESL for two semesters in the Adult Education Program, University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus, as a volunteer. My students were all immigrants from Mexico. While working in the program, I specialized in tutoring four to six intermediate level students at a time, in reading, writing and speaking. From that experience, I discovered that face to face tutoring was the most satisfying experience for me, as opposed to traditional classroom teaching.
After leaving New Mexico, I tutored adults in Pedasi, Republic of Panama', in 2011, 2012 and 2013. There I assisted Panamanian students with their English homework and even helped several professional men and women improve their English skills. I held classes twice per week in our home. As in New Mexico, I tutored four to six students at a time.
I am presently living in Reno, NV, USA, where I just finished working in the "Read and Succeed" summer program as a volunteer English teacher with the Washoe County School District. There, I tutored 5th graders in reading and writing. I am now working evenings as an ESL instructor for the Northern Nevada Literacy Council. My days are free and I would like to continue tutoring individuals and small groups in reading and writing.
