Hello, my name is Tierney. I'm 24 and a recent graduate from UNR. My skills range from basic composition (grammar, syntax, spelling etc.) to literary criticism and rhetorical analysis. My area of expertise is Renaissance literature, specifically Shakespeare (which I believe everyone should learn to love!), though I also have experience with European history, and I'm well versed in most genres of literature.
I've been the go-to proof reader for my friends and classmates since I can remember. Luckily being good with words provides me with unlimited ways of explaining concepts and rules. I work well both with groups and individuals. I'm very patient, and my hours are flexible.
English is my passion, and I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing than spreading the love.
Test prep is all about understanding what the tester is looking for and training your brain to think like they do.
Very simple to instruct on, as the student has all the information needed right there on the page. It's only a matter of teaching how to find it.
If you can speak it, you can write it.
My minor is in Medieval and Renaissance studies, with my expertise in the Protestant Reformation.
The easiest way to teach grammar is by speaking out loud, listening for the error.
Literature is always tricky because there is so much going into and being reflected within a piece, but with the proper guidance anyone can be trained to sift through the layers of lit.
I'm a real stickler for grammar, so this comes naturally to me.
Test prep is really about training yourself to think the way the testers think, and how to tune into what they feel is important. It's all about practice.
This falls into the category of grammar and syntax. It's easiest to teach if you have the student focus on "hearing" the errors in the text.
Hands down the most important part of the study of English. Without understanding the words being used how can one be expected to succeed at any task?
If you can speak, you can write.
