I am a native speaker in Mandarin Chinese and received my B.A. in Education in China in 1986. I got my finance degree in the States in 1990 and worked in the financial industry for over a decade before my daughter was born.
We started homeschooling in 2005 when my daughter was in 3rd grade and my son was in Kindergarten. Our home education's journey was very humbling for me yet greatly rewarding. Today my son is a rising high school sophomore and my daughter a thriving high school senior dual enrolled with over 50 college credits.
I believe our children are born with the curiosity to learn anything, and it is a teacher's primary job to encourage the love of learning and facilitate to meet those intellectual needs. I have enjoyed working with students and sharing my teaching experiences with those who seem to be "struggling" in the traditional school system. It has been truly rewarding to see them discovering their full potentials and maximize their learning experiences.
I am also teaching Mandarin Chinese in our local language schools for over a decade, tutoring students for high school foreign language credits and/or SAT Chinese, as well as teaching Mandarin Chinese at an online school to students from over 20 states and five countries.
I would first like to meet with my student in person to discuss what are their goals and challenges, so that I can have a better understanding of their learning styles (visual, auditory or kinetic, etc.) Many times, our bright students have more "issues" in school not because of their academic abilities but because of other complex learning (dis)abilities which can be easily diagnosed and corrected in the early stages.
Please do not hesitate to write to me should you have any questions prior to our meeting.
