I am presently a licensed employee of CCSD. I am a licensed to teach Secondary Education Math including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry I, and Algebra II. This is my 6th year in the district and I presently teach 7th grade math. Prior to middle school I taught high school as well. I taught freshman algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II at the highschool setting.
I have been a math tutor since I was in middle school myself (that is over 25 years of experience in this industry). I have had success through my time as a tutor to convert students from F's to A status, just by having students practice my one's and zero's technique. I help students see that math is not a scary subject, but a subject that can and will be tamed. I have tutored all levels of students from Kindergarten to university levels and also at the professional levels.
My degree is actually in Biology, and I use the science background to stimulate how math is definitely related to all science subjects, from looking at graphs to calculating the number of moles in a compound. I have also worked in the computer programming industry for 7 years and can positively relate how algebra and variables are used in not only computer programs, but in daily life as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra I at the middle and high school levels and have tutored students at the college level.
I have taught Algebra 2 in high school for 2 years. It is important to be able to know pre-algebra, algebra I and geometry to be successful in Algebra 2. If there is a lack of information, no worries, we can fill the gaps as we go along.
The basics of math are very important to have, without it the higher forms of math are tougher to master. I have taken my daughter's knowledge of math from elementary math to pre-algebra in her first year of middle school (6th grade). Even my son who is in third grade now, understands positive and negative integers and when to add and subtract them.
I have taught high school geometry for 2 years at the high school level in Clark county.
I have taught middle school pre-algebra and know how to get the student to understand why they are doing a certain process.
