I am an experienced NM certified teacher offering:

* Tutoring in high-school Math (Geometry, Algebra 2 and Pre-calc)

* Tutoring in elementary and middle school level Math (Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1)

* Elementary and middle school science

* ESL tutoring

* Tutoring in phonics, reading and writing for elementary school level

* Lessons in conversational Japanese from beginning to advanced level

I am caring and patient with my students. I am also good at isolating what creates stumbling blocks in their learning process and helping them move through that. Learning Math especially is very much like building a house. We can't move to building the second floor if the first one is not in place. I work with the student to fill up the gaps and strengthen the structure of their knowledge so they can keep building higher and higher. Better understanding leads to greater confidence. It gives the student a more positive experience with the subject they are learning too. It is fulfilling to see a student reach the place of "I CAN DO THIS!" and find enjoyment in what was often just tedious work before.

For the little Einsteins with special interest in Science I offer private Science lessons where we explore together subjects they are interested in or lessons I design specifically for them.

I have 9 years of working as an ESL instructor in Japan and have a lot of experience teaching phonics, reading and writing comprehension.

Having been born and educated in Europe I have naturally received a more extensive education in European history and literature and can assist with studies in that area too.

* Sofia High-school of Mathematics, Sofia, Bulgaria

* Completed the Japan Foundation Japanese training course

* Completed ProLiteracy America ESL Tutors' Training

* Currently enrolled in the Santa Fe Community College, Early Childhood Education AA degree course

Tutoring experience:

* 9 years of experience as an ESL instructor, Tokyo, Japan

* 4 years of experience as a math and science tutor

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as a math tutor to young children in Japan for several years. I am completing a degree in early childhood education and part of my studies has been the preschool and kindergarten curriculum, math included. I employ many different technique to help my students understand easier the basic math ideas they need to know to get ready for kindergarten and school.

I have worked as a science tutor to K-6 children for several years. The kindergarten science curriculum has been a part of my studies at the Santa Fe Community College, where I am majoring in early childhood education. I love doing experiments with my little students to help them get a hands-on experience in how our world works.

I have worked as a private reading and writing tutor to young children for 9 years, both in Japan and in the US. Using phonics cards, books and other materials, I help my students learn the alphabet and the basics of reading in a fun way.

ESL/ESOL

I have 10 years of experience teaching ESL in Japan. I recently completed ProLiteracy America tutor training and will receive my certificate in April. I am comfortable working with both children and adults.
