I believe that to keep pace with the amount of information and change we are exposed to each day, teachers must continue learning. We must tap into the many resources beyond the textbook and venture outside the classrooms. As an experienced college instructor and tutor/mentor to children K-12, I'll show you how what you learn in school relates to you, your families, your homes, and communities.
How does my tutoring in the sciences, writing, reading comprehension, and grammar skills work? We will explore ways in which these subjects relate to other subjects that you are learning about and I’ll show you how observing what's happening around us can improve your understanding of what you read in textbooks. For example, have you ever noticed how water circulates from the air to the ground and back again? This natural occurrence is called the hydrologic cycle and taking a walk outside to see it in action--experiencing it-- may be far more memorable than merely reading about it.
As a teacher, I appreciate that students learn about subjects in different ways and it’s my job to help you find your best way! Your creative juices may flow from watching a TED video, playing a game, writing a story, or from something entirely different than anything you've tried. I'll help you explore different ways to get interested and engaged in your learning experience.
Have you ever had a point to make that you felt strong about making, but could not quite come up with the best way to express yourself? My tutoring will increase your confidence in communicating whether it's speaking or writing about your points. Plus, you’ll find that the Internet is a complete wealth of information if you know how to use it! I'll show you where to go for information you can rely on and that teachers look for!
The bottom line is that I hope that our work together will be a stimulating, challenging, creative, and fun experience that will produce positive grades for you! I am excited to meet you!
