I firmly believe that everyone -- without exception -- can excel in language, the key is just figuring out how the student best connects with the material at hand. None of us is born knowing a language, so we all start out on the same page. My job is to bring your student up to speed so that they continue to remain on the same page as their peers (or surpass them!). Positive reinforcement and confidence-building are parts of my teaching strategy, as I think these two factors play huge roles in the learning process and in an individual's ability and openness to learning new material.
I am a professionally trained writer with a Master's in English and Creative Writing. I have worked as a university-level English professor for several years, and specialize in editing, proofreading, and all types of English tutoring (literature, writing, grammar, business writing, reading comprehension, among others). I also previously served as Assistant Director of Longwood University's Writing Center, where I helped train tutors, helped student clients excel in their academic work, as well as assisted with professionalization documents like resumes, cover letters, and CVs.
I enjoy one-on-one training because it allows me to cater my skill sets to one client's specific needs and abilities, as well as allowing for a measurement of student success that is difficult to achieve in a classroom setting. I am more than happy to cater tutoring sessions to specific assignments or classes, and have a range of exercises and activities to stimulate minds looking to know more or brush up on their English abilities, including some that could be given to the student for between tutoring sessions. I am interested in tutoring students at all levels, though I am most experienced with higher-level students.
