My name is Grace; I am a recently retired math teacher. I know that math is challenging for most students, however - when it is presented in an effective and simple way - it is actually easier than most people think and it can even be fun!
As an educator for many years, I have witness many of my students succeed in Math. With patience and enthusiasm, and using a systematic teaching method, I have helped them to learn, gain confidence and improve their grades.
My main goal as a tutor is teaching the subject in a fitting way for that individual student, explaining concepts clearly and thoroughly - using plain words - and making the material as easy as possible. I summarize the procedure to solve problems and give students step-by-step instructions to follow. I take responsibility for the learning process and believe that it is my job to ensure that the student understands the material.
Providing a friendly and supportive environment, where the student feels comfortable is essential; we work problems together, step-by-step, at the student's pace and the student may ask questions at any time.
Learning Math is like going up a ladder, when some steps are missing, you can't continue to move up. Sometimes, details from previous math courses are forgotten, yet they are required to work on the current material. Identifying those "missing steps" is critical to the student's progress.
Another goal is to help the student to be prepared for exams and become more confident in their ability to take exams. Research has proven that "test anxiety" affects many students and interferes with their ability to take exams - particularly Math exams! Feeling well prepared for an exam and improving their attitude toward Math can help students to get better grades.
A good tutor may become a fundamental part of the students' learning process. I love teaching, enjoy being a tutor and would cherish the opportunity to help you achieve your educational goals.
