Hi my name is Sabrina! I am a collegiate Senior at Eastern New Mexico University, and I am majoring in Elementary Education/Special Education with an emphasis in Reading. I will be graduating from ENMU in December 2014. I currently am tutoring a 5th grade girl. She attends a private school, and she struggles in math and we have just began and I can already see improvement. I also tutor an 8th grade girl who is in Special Education at the Portales schools. She struggles in Math and Reading and we recently found out she has improved a letter grade in each subject in less than a month. I would really like to work with students in the Elementary level, but I am willing to work with others also. My personal favorite subject is Mathematics, and I love to have activities to help a student with their math assignments. I am currently going to school to be a teacher because I love to work with children, and I've known the I wanted to be an educator since high school. I was a Recreation Leader at a Recreation Center program for 3 years in Artesia, NM. I was in charge of the Art program and that was the first time I got to work with a large group of children during the summer and after school. It was a place where they would come and have fun, but they were also learning. One summer, our theme was "Different faces, Different places." We learned about different cultures and places and each week I would have different activities for each week, and each continent. For example one week we learned about Antarctica, and on Friday we made igloos. I love to make things fun, while students are also learning. I have observed many different teaching strategies and I can guarantee I know more or less of how to make your student improve not only in the classroom, but also in everyday life obstacle. I am very outgoing, and will strive my best to do what I have to do. I am willing to work with different schedules, and may also be willing to set up Skype sessions, etc., just let me know!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing is one of my favorite things to use because you have to be creative to make such things as flyers, cards, ect. In high school I was a part of Business Professionals of America (BPA) and I competed in the Desktop Publishing area. When I was a Junior in high school (2009), I placed 5th in New Mexico for Desktop Publishing. When I was a Senior in high school (2010), I placed 1st in New Mexico for Desktop Publishing, and 18th at Nationals. I enjoyed competing and it was a great opportunity where I learned different types of models using Desktop Publishing.

FANTASTIC and very patient — We just moved into the area and the math that the school is doing was not what she was doing in another state. Sabrina has (in only two sessions) given her a real boost in her confidence that she is going to be fine with the new stuff, and that they will be able to help her progress past the old stuff that she has struggled with. Thanks Sabrina! You are the BEST person to tutor my girl! Thank ...
