I am a bright and enthusiastic 55-year-old wife and mother living in the Tysons Corner area of Northern Virginia. Through the years I have acquired direct experience teaching and motivating kids. I have taught "Hands-On Science
" to elementary school kids, served as a Girl Scout leader for 5 years, taught comparative religion
classes at my church, and worked as a substitute teacher for FCPS, primarily with middle school children.
My college degree is in geography
with a minor in psychology
. A personal fascination with biology
have lead to a broad general knowledge in these areas, as well. I studied Spanish
for 5 years, and could tutor a first year student very well.
I am personable, outgoing, funny and smart. I can explain things well to people of all ages. I don't have a specific method for tutoring that I would use with every kid. I know that each child has a unique learning style and attention span, and I will tailor my approach accordingly. In general, I will focus on current assignments and review fundamental concepts. I may also engage in discussion, have the student read aloud, use outside materials that apply to the subject, have the student make and work with flashcards. I will always provide constructive feedback focusing on accomplishments rather than failures. I look forward to working with your child to enhance their academic performance.

their enjoyment of learning. I loved school as a kid, but my son did not. Aside from the other experiences I have had working with and educating...
