Seeing children achieve their goals in reading and math is my primary focus. I love working with you and your children to set individual goals for tutoring.

I am currently a fourth grade teacher in Lockport. Prior to that I was a second grade teacher for two years. I have also tutored students from first grade through college level. Additionally, I have a Master's degree from Christian Brothers University with a reading specialist license track. My undergraduate degree is from Vanderbilt University in which I majored in elementary education and sociology.

I have experience working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and special needs. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham based method of multisensory language arts instruction. I completed two summers of the Simultaneous Multisensory Institute of Language Arts (SMILA) training. This program is very similar to Wilson. I have also worked as a Title 1 tutor.

I am available after-school or during the summer (June/July).

I look forward to working with you to help your son and/or daughter succeed. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Tutored and taught numerous students with ADHD. Able to modify lessons to allow movement and keep student's attention.

As a certified teacher, I am able to help students with both algebra and any possible missing building blocks in their mathematical knowledge.

Aspergers

Familiar with the learning differences of children with Aspergers. Able to incorporate life skills and social skills into academic lessons.

Dyslexia

Phonics

Taught Saxon Phonics 2 for two years. Trained in multisensory techniques using synthetic phonics. Able to fill in the gaps for struggling older readers.

Spelling

Have a student who can memorize the words for the weekly spelling test but can not seem to spell the words again the next day?

If so, I can help your son/daughter to learn the rules behind spelling.

By teaching the letter-sound patterns, I can help your son/daughter improve his/her spelling quickly. Don't let spelling be a mystery any longer.
