Approved subjects are in bold.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an Air Force Reserves officer, I am familiar with and have taken the AFOQT exam. I am a registered civil engineer, which gives me the appropriate qualifications in the quantitative portions of the exam. I'm also a published author and have been formally recognized by the Air Force for writing and speaking. These skills qualify me to tutor students in the verbal and reading aptitude portions of the exam.
I am able to help prepare for the AFQT portions of the ASVAB including Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Word Knowledge (WK), Mathematics Knowlege (MK), and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR).
I am a registered Civil Engineer in the State of Arizona. I have a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and and a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. I have been a Civil Engineering reserve officer in the US Air Force since 1992 and an engineering consultant in the private sector since 2005.
In addition to meeting Wyzant's qualifications for Math and Reading, I am a published book author and magazine contributor.
As a Master of Science and professional engineer, I have a great deal of experience in developing effective study and test taking skills. I’m able to discuss with and teach the student strategies such as effective note-taking, developing test review sheets, test-taking skills, and tips to reduce anxiety. These strategies can be applied for success in any field of study. In addition, I have been formally recognized by the Air Force for effective communication skills.
