I am a recently retired Computer Scientist with a very large interest in Music. I tutor in not only a wide variety of computer and math subjects, but I also tutor in Music Theory and Piano/Keyboard. I use both in my compositions (ask me how to hear some free ones). I am currently located in Albuquerque.

In order to become a computer professional, I had to be very good at Algebra and Calculus, and I had to be an excellent problem solver. The last 10 years were spent studying Java for both standalone applications and web applications, and this brought me into the worlds of Struts, Spring, JSTL, JNDI, JDBC, and Hibernate. Previous to Java I learned computer software from assembly (the lowest level of software) to languages such as C++ and PL/I, along with OOP (Object Oriented Programming). I have been an analyst and designer throughout my career. I can even diagnose problems with programs where I've never seen the code.

I would love to impart my knowledge to you and/or your child. Trust in my proven real-world success, and I'll try to make you a success! Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory hour!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am a retired computer programmer (for over 30 years) and certified music theory tutor. Both of those subjects use a lot of math, especially algebra. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

Algebra 2

I am a retired professional computer programmer (for over 30 years). This along with my music theory expertise mean that I have a very good handle on Algebra. Algebra can be considered the backbone of both these fields of endeavor. I have a B.S. in Math & Computer Science, and excelled in Algebra. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

C

I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BS in Math / Computer Science. I was in the computer science arena since then, as a programmer, analyst (I am recently retired), and software designer. I started out programming in assembly language (yes, I'm that old!), and moved on to other languages including C, C++, and Java. I have worked with all the concepts of the C programming language, from syntax to structs and unions to using C for non-traditional programming, such as object-oriented programming. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

C++

I have worked with all the concepts of the C++ programming language, from syntax to operator overloading to the intricacies of the virtual call table. I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BS in Math / Computer Science. I was in the computer science arena since then (I am retired now), as a programmer, analyst, and software designer. I started out programming in assembly language (yes, I'm that old!), and moved on to other languages including C, C++, and Java. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

Computer Programming

I am certified by Sun Microsystems in Java. I graduated from Pace University in Math and Computer Science, and have worked for various clients creating various systems. The last few years (I am retired now) I have been working with Java, J2EE, JSP, SQL, Struts, Spring, and Hibernate. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

Computer Science

I am a retired computer programmer, a position that I held for over 30 years. My knowledge of computer science not only stems from this programming experience, but from the operating systems that ran the programs (UNIX / Linux / Windows) and the databases that interfaced with these programmers (many, but most notably Oracle, MySQL, and SQL). Also remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 hour of tutoring.

General Music

I am certified by WyzAnt in Music Theory. I sang solo in church choir as a teenager. There I learned to read music, and I have since learned to compose; I have 3 of my pieces for free, and many free music theory lessons. Just search for me. I would be happy to introduce someone to the wonderful world of music, or to help someone enhance their knowledge of music. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory hour!

Geometry

I am a recently retired computer programmer. I was at this position for over 30 years. This field uses math of all sorts, so I have a lot of practical experience. I also have experience mentoring junior programmers, so I am familiar with the educational process. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 introductory hour!

HTML

I have been working with HTML in various forms since the late 1980s, and so I have considerable experience with the subject. I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BS in Math / Computer Science. I was in the computer science arena since then (I am recently retired), as a programmer, analyst, and software designer. I am currently a Java / J2EE programmer, in which part of my job is to program JSPs (the Java equivalent of ASPs) and create static HTML pages. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 introductory hour!

Java

Over the past few years, I have been working almost exclusively in J2EE, so my expertise extends to J2EE/JEE, JSPs, Servlets, and frameworks such as Struts, Hibernate, and Spring. I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BS in Math / Computer Science. I was in the computer science arena until recently (I am now retired), as a programmer, analyst, and software designer. I started out programming in assembly language (yes, I'm that old!), and moved on to other languages including C, C++, and Java. In Java I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) and a Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEA). The latest JDK that I have worked with is JDK 6.

Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 introductory hour!

JavaScript

Many web pages use JavaScript to perform client side tasks. The last 10 years of my job involved creating Java-based Web Applications, which included writing HTML, and JSP pages, many of which required JavaScript. I used JavaScript as a standalone language, as part of validation procedures, and as part of AJAX. Where necessary I coordinated JavaScript methods with HTML and server side code. I learned how to debug JavaScript both directly through the language and through browser debugging tools such as FireBug. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 introductory hour!

Linux

I am qualified by WyzAnt to teach UNIX; Linux is a "flavor" of UNIX. Ever since Linux first came out in the market I have interfaced with the Linux command line, running individual commands, writing scripts, and writing C programs. My work required me to be proficient in working with Linux, so that I could perform certain tasks by myself and interface with Linux System Administrators for others. I like Linux so much that I have Ubuntu Linux at home, which has a terminal session that I can call up whenever I need to perform something that the GUI can't. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 introductory hour!

Music Theory

I have been accumulating Music Theory knowledge since I was a baritone in the church choir as a teenager; this includes the various elements of notation, the importance of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre, the study of intervals and their application to music, and elements of composition. I am a member of MTSMA (the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic). I have written a book on 53-TET (a system of dividing the octave into 53 equally-spaced steps). Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

Oracle

The last 20 years of my career were spent with Oracle databases. There I not only wrote simple queries, but I designed databases and database changes, wrote complex Oracle Stored Procedures and triggers, and wrote the other CRUD operations. I also worked with indeces, constraints, and foreign and primary keys. Please don't forget that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 hour!

Piano

I am qualified to teach elementary to intermediate piano, as well as any sight reading (see my certification in Music Theory). I have taken piano lessons in the past and have used those skills to aid me in songwriting and composition. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

Prealgebra

I was a professional computer programmer (for over 30 years, now retired) and certified music theory tutor. Both of those subjects use a lot of math, especially algebra and pre-algebra. I would really like the opportunity to help you or your child further learn the wonders of the math world. Math should be fun, and students should understand some of the real-world applications of what they are learning. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

SQL

I am currently programming in Java (previously in C and C++), in which SQL statements are used in all my applications. As a result I have successfully learned many aspects of SQL. Our databases currently run with Oracle 11g. I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BS in Math / Computer Science. I was in the computer science arena until recently (I am now retired), as a programmer, analyst, and software designer. Please remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE introductory 1/2 hour!

UNIX

I am a retired computer programmer, a position I held for over 30 years. Almost all of the programming was either done on UNIX machines, or that's where the programs were run, or both. As a result I have an intimate knowledge of UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems. Please also remember that all new students are eligible for a FREE 1/2 hour of tutoring.
