My name is Michael B. I have spent nearly my entire adult life in the sphere of private business, but my formal education has been in Literature. I believe Literature and Philosophy are frequently thought of, particularly in the case of young people, as subjects that are somehow irrelevant or inaccessible. My approach to teaching is to guide the student in analysis so that he or she discovers that a great work actually is relevant. My objective is to increase his or her appreciation of literature, improve the student's skill in critical thinking and improve their skill in development of a thesis. When students find they are struggling with Literature and have come to believe they hate it, it is only because they have not yet discovered that they love it. I can change that in a few sessions.
I taught literature as well as history, sociology and philosophy while living in Costa Rica. I received a Master degree. In English and comparative literature in 1989.
I am a veteran of the U.S. Army. I love art and music. I study classical violin and Martial Arts. I have lived in a foreign country for ten years. I love golf, fishing and string theory.
