I have tutored dozens of students in SAT math, ACT math, and high school math with excellent results. Additionally, I have also helped candidates working on their GMAT, GED, Series 7, and Series 66 exams. One on One tutoring has always proven to be the most effective teaching method. I believe that everyone has the capability to learn. The secret sauce is the right approach and it takes a sensitive teacher to find the correct recipe that works. The proper approach depends on your goals. If you are good and want to get better, that requires one technique. If you are intimidated by Math and you have always struggled, that requires a different method. Everyone is teachable one on one when motivated. As a tutor it is very rewarding to be sitting next to a student at the exact moment they "GET IT" and then go on to do well on their test.

I work from a baseline of diagnostic test results and design instructions that will address deficiencies. A course of study to achieve a goal is usually the best approach but I can work under deadlines as well. Flexible scheduling can include evenings, nights, and weekends.

I will travel to your house or a library. I do recommend a minimum of 1 - 1 1/2 hours per session since I find that to be the most effective in producing concrete results.

My qualifications include graduating high school in the top 1% of my class, Cornell University with a BS in Operations Research, Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society), and an MBA in finance from Cornell University. I am able to relate to my students very well having already tutored many with results that speak for themselves. I have 3 children with the youngest in College. I live in Northern New Jersey and I teach Financial Literacy to High School Freshman as part of my day job.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I love tutoring! Working with a student and creating a customized learning curriculum makes every new student a challenge and opportunity. ACT math seems daunting to many students at first, particularly after the first real test. It does not have to be. Once broken down, my students understand that improving your score is a very achievable goal. As soon as a student understands that tangible results are possible, I find that they become not only willing but enthusiastic about the work required to get the score they want. A short conversation is the best way to learn about me, about my process, and see if it fits your needs.

Algebra 2

Is terrific at making math interesting for my 16 year old daughter, who is math challenged. Use Jamie if you want an excellent tutor.

Business

I have an MBA in Finance and a BS in Industrial Engineering. I have also successfully tutored a student in management operations.

ISEE

I have tutored ISEE and SSAT exams before. The skills involved are consistent with the tutoring I do for middle school math students. I generally used a test guide and supplementary materials that I keep in my library.

Series 63

I currently hold a Series 66 License which is a combination of a Series 63 and 65. I passed it two years ago and the study skills I teach are current. Most of the test is memorization and requires knowledge of state security laws and procedures.

Series 7

I currently hold a Series 7 and Passed the test with a grade of 92. The test is composed of two general areas of proficiency. One is understanding equities, options, bonds, and economics. The other is memorization of the rules, regulations, and laws required. Both need different study techniques. That is where I come in.

Jamie was the solution for our son's SAT Math problems. He's the "Math Doctor". — Finding the right tutor is not always easy. However, since the first day, we knew Jamie was the right choice. Jamie is a great tutor, he was able to determine exactly what areas our son needed help in. Jamie obviously loves what he does and it can be seen in the way he teaches and interacts during the lessons. We will continue to use Jamie as long as we have need for a tutor. ...
