I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Business Administration & Management and am the mother of 2 grown children. My youngest son, 20, is autistic, so between my degree and life experience (far more important in my opinion) I have a lot of experience with special needs kids and young adults. I also worked briefly as a behavioral therapist applying an ABC approach (antecedent, behavior consequence), which is successful with some children. My own son used the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication) system as a young child before he became verbal.

I am also very successful in teaching skills an English and reading in preparation for exams such as PSAT, SAT, GED and others, as well as promoting success in the classroom for children and adults of all ages.

Math tutoring is also offered for elementary and middle school children. Touch math can be used if you find it helpful.

My approach is down-to-Earth, interactive and individualized toward your needs. No one method works for everyone.

Aspergers

My college degree is a Bachelor's in Psychology and Business Administration & Management. My experience with Asperger's and Autism comes from my education, prior job experience and most importantly life experience, the truest on-the-job training you can have. I am the mother of 2 grown children. My youngest son, 20, is high-functioning autistic often referred to as Aspergers. My brother also had similar issues. Between my degree and life experience (far more important in my opinion) I have a lot of experience with special needs kids and young adults. I also worked briefly as a behavioral therapist applying an ABC approach (antecedent, behavior consequence), which is successful with some children. My own son used the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication) system as a young child before he became verbal.

Microsoft Outlook

I attended a Microcomputer Software Applications course last year at Warren County Community College. In addition to that, I use this program consistently in both my personal and business life. I own an automobile repair service that requires me to stay in touch with all the updates to the different facets of Outlook.

Microsoft Windows

I own an automobile repair service in which I use these programs. I also attended a Microcomputer Software Applications course last year at Warren County Community College.

Public Speaking

I own an automobile repair service in which I present information to the public on a regular basis. I have presented programs to Elementary school classes and teachers while working for the NJ Tourette Syndrome Association. I also took a Public Speaking course last year at Warren County Community College.

Special Needs

I have hands-on experience as well as formal education in the area of special needs children. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Business Administration & Management. I trained as a behavioral therapist applying an ABC approach (antecedent, behavior consequence), which is successful with some children with various special needs. I worked for the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome for over 3 years. I also have experience with the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication) system used for children with limited or no verbal skills. My youngest son, 20, is autistic (currently in community college), so between my degree and life experience (far more important in my opinion, I have a lot of experience with special needs kids and young adults. I have spent many hours in self-contained and mainstreamed classroom volunteering in every facet.

Study Skills

I have taught children with special needs as well as typically challenged school-aged children to develop study skills. I teach them how to organize in concrete and abstract ways. Once they learn to organize their papers and books, they can learn more the abstract ideas of organizing thoughts and ideas. I also employ basic study techniques including flashcards and pneumonic devices, then individualize them to meet the students needs and skill levels.
