Hi Everybody,

My name is Elisa, and I may be the ideal tutor for you!

I am a graduate of Rowan University with a BA in Education, with a certification in Special Education K-12. I am highly qualified in the academic areas of English, Math, History and Science.

Besides tutoring, I also have a lot of work experience as a Special Education teacher in public and alternative settings. I have a lot of experience working with a variety of educational and behavioral challenges. For example, mental illness, autism, Aspergers, Down Syndrome, reading and math issues.

In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and concrete experiences in addition to worksheets. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style of the student.

Phonics

I have a heavy concentration of college work and teaching reading in NJ. I hold a teacher of the handicap certificate K-12. My course work reflects teaching students with reading problems in phonics. decoding, vocabulary and comprehension. I taught in both settings of private sector and public settings.

Study Skills

I taught high school study skills at Hampton Academy, in Mt Holly with my teacher of the handicap in NJ, grades 6-12 self-contained and departmentalized classes. I also taught study skills in public schools for middle school students and high school students alike.

Special Needs

I have a BA from Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ. I hold a Teacher of the Handicap Certificate in NJ K-12. I am also Highly Qualified in all core academic areas based on the states matrix of NJ. I have taught a variety of challenges within the public and private sectors. Such has mental illness, ADD/ADHD/ Autism, Aspergers, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, mental retardation, and more.

ADD/ADHD

I have a teacher of the handicap certificate in the state of NJ K-12 and I have documentation to support being highly qualified in the areas of English, math, science, and history. I have over 20 years of experience working with children K-12 who exhibited signs of ADD/ADHD in the classroom settings of public and private arenas. These young people all were either on medication for the disorder or not on medication to assist with their daily challenges.

Aspergers

I have a Special Education Teacher of the Handicap Certificate K-12. In my 24 years of teaching I have over two years with working students K-12 who have autism or Asperger's.

Autism

I have a Teacher of the Handicap Certificate from NJ K-12. I have work experience in ABS and at Eden Institute in Princeton, NJ and the Douglas Development Center in Rutgers, NJ. I have work with individuals with PDD, autism and Asperger's in both an alternative setting and public school setting.

Dyslexia

I am a Special Education Teacher with a concentration of helping students with reading problems such has Dyslexia. I am highly qualified in the all academic areas and at all levels elementary, middle school and high school. I have had experience with Orton-Gillingham training and phonic reading.
