Hello!
*** I tutor from my apartment in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia (Carpenter Lane Station); also willing to travel within a half mile radius during the winter months (it's cold outside), and a mile radius the rest of the year. Point of reference - Carpenter Lane Station.
I have spent ten years tutoring and teaching in a variety of subjects. During my undergraduate work, I tutored fellow students, taught and assisted early childhood music classes, and spent considerable time in Philadelphia classrooms as part of my degree coursework. After I graduated from Temple, I went on to teach instrumental music at the high school level. I then decided to pursue a career in opera and went to Westminster College of the Arts to work on my Master's Degree, which, I completed in 2007.
The timeline for an opera singer is quite long, and in the intervening years between school study and professional practice, I have been teaching. I spent a brief time in the Philadelphia school district at an incentive school (former Edison school) as a general music teacher (K-6). I was not able to withstand the emotional distress that came with that job and went on to substitute teach for a brief time. While substitute teaching, I was fortunate to have considerable experience in both English and Math on the middle school level. I decided to earn my middle years mathematics certification and went on to teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra at the Folk Arts Cultural Treasures Charter School (Chinatown - Philadelphia) for two years. In addition to mathematics, I also spent some time teaching opera and chess at FACTS.
I am an adventurous person, and I always like to be on the move so when the opportunity to live in Italy arose, I took it. After living in Italy for three months, I decided to return to America. My operatic career is near so I have decided to devote myself to tutoring, private lessons, and substitute teaching until that time comes.
I will provide copies of my resume and cover letters upon request. I have a lot to offer because I have had many experiences, far too many to recount in this brief introduction. You will find me a patient and thorough tutor with high expectations for her students and parents. I look forward to hearing from you.
