I have been providing service as a private tutor for more than ten years. I enjoy English and I enjoy teaching. I am in the process of obtaining alternate route teaching certification. I have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree and will graduate from Rutgers University in May of this year. I currently teach in a 4-H after school program on a part time basis. As stated I have completed coursework and I am available to teach full time.

I have tutored students in English grammar, usage, essay writing and ESL. The students I have worked with ranged from elementary to graduate school level. I have an outgoing personality and like to see students reach success and will work hard to see it happen. I believe in positive re-enforcement while teaching: "accentuate the positive".

Having taught individuals in tutoring and groups in a classroom setting, I see the advantage of one-on-one teaching. I like seeing the ah-ha moment in the students' eyes.
I like walking and enjoy music. I sing with the Rutgers University chorus and have toured with them over time, in Scotland, Wales, Italy and Spain. I have worked various clerical jobs in the corporate world but consider teaching my vocation.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been tutoring for over 10 years and have experience in working with elementary students in reading, writing and language arts. I currently work with elementary students in an after-school program. I will assess your son's strengths and weaknesses and tailor a lesson plan that will build on his current knowledge, and find ways to improve his study habits. Working one-on-one I will use word games to build vocabulary and make sessions less tedious than in classroom learning. I have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree and will graduate from Rutgers University in May of this year.

I have 164 undergraduate credits with an English major. I have extensive credits in English literature, grammar and language arts. I have tutored students and can design a plan to help improve study habits and increase test scores. Once I assess the students current aptitude, designing a curriculum that is specifically suited to the student is the next step.

I have been tutoring for over 10 years, and have taken and passed the Praxis in English. I know that there is a technique to test taking and that while you can be prepared, you can not study for a comprehensive test like the Praxis exam. I prepare a student to take this exam by advising them of what to expect and reviewing works from Literature that is considered the canon. I am also willing to submit my score provided by the testing company.

I have experience in tutoring grade school children in reading and English Language Arts. I currently work with students of this age group in an after school program. Once I assess their needs I will design a curriculum suited to build on their current skills and improve their weaknesses. This curriculum must be specific as it must meet the needs of both students. I believe my prior experience enables me to help these students.

SAT Writing

I have taken the SAT and other comprehensive tests. The most recent test I have taken was the Praxis for teaching certification and I scored well above passing. With English as my major strong writing skills were part of the requirements for most of my English courses. When taking courses I was never intimidated by writing intensive courses and always did well.
