I believe that most people have some creative well inside and it is my job to find that source. I believe that given basic fundamentals art students can learn not just how to draw better but how to see better. Drawing realistically is not the only criteria for being an artist, because there are so many ways in which a person can express themselves visually.
I have 42 years of teaching experience at the secondary level and have taught elementary school children in summer and afternoon community programs.
I have been Teacher of the Year and have also won numerous awards for my own art work. I have taught courses in Humanities, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Crafts, Graphic Design, Yearbook production, Printmaking, Art Fundamentals, Art of Our Culture (Western Art) and Art of Other Cultures (Non-western Art). For Yearbook design my students have done much work with photography and Photoshop.
I have helped students develop and compile their portfolios for acceptance to major art schools in New York and Philadelphia. My students have been county and state winners in poster contests. I have worked with children to paint a mural in a Sunday school classroom at a church as well as the walls of a school.
My goal is to give art students a variety of ways in which to be expressive to find which style, materials or techniques gives them the highest degree of satisfaction and sense of accomplishment.
