As an experienced ESL teacher, I know how to make students feel comfortable. I will show you that I care about each and every one of you. I will get to know you, and your interests and personalities. You will work hard but you'll have fun, too!
I will always vary your activities and keep you challenged. We will use books but I also provide many of my own materials, from websites, workshops, magazines, and pictures. I also give you a lot of time to practice with hands-on materials. For example, when we do a lesson on money, I will have play money, along with credit cards, money orders, debit cards (look real) and store circulars and catalogs. Then we'll go shopping!
Each lesson we will use all the ESL skills to help you improve your English. We'll read, write, listen and speak. I won't translate because I want you to focus on what we're saying in English. I do however, allow you to have a dictionary for those times when even with the best ESL teacher you still don't understand very difficult words and ideas.
I have taught mainly adult learners from beginner to advanced level students for the past several years. I did however teach individuals in elementary through middle school in New York and New Jersey. I hold a master's degree from Hunter College in New York and graduated in the first TESOL class. I have a NJ ESL Certificate, as well as a N.Y.C. elementary teaching certificate, a N.Y.C. bilingual Italian teaching certificate and a N.Y.C. Early Childhood teaching Certificate.
As someone who lived in a foreign country for a few years I know how frustrating it could be to not have the words to say what you want to say, but I know you will get there. You will know you are fluent when you begin to dream in your new language. Together, I know we can do it!!
