Hello, and welcome future parents and students! My name is Lisa B. and I graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 2010 as a Biology major and Applied Mathematics minor. I have broad knowledge in the biological sciences both in a classroom setting and in the real world. I participated in genetics and biomedical research. My expertise extends beyond the biological sciences; I can provide help in Physics, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. As you may have inferred, I tutor students in mathematics as well. As an undergraduate, I performed well in courses such as Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and Statistics. Furthermore, I am confident that I can tutor students who are preparing to take standardized tests. I have recent standardized testing experience and have done well on the MCAT and on all of its components: Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, Writing, and Biological Sciences.
My tutoring style is friendly, time efficient, and dynamic. It is proven that students perform better when they are relaxed and anxiety levels are low; therefore I prefer to make my sessions fun, stimulating, and stress free. In regards to time efficiency, I value every minute of my students’ time and I’m obligated to conduct a focused and productive session. In most cases, there are many routes students can take to solve a problem. Therefore, if one of those roads are blocked and students have trouble understanding, I will find another way to explain the problem in order for students to arrive at the same solution. I also emphasize good study techniques; I want my students to succeed and do well with or without my assistance. My main priority is to help students understand the material that they are struggling with. I pride myself when I hear students say, “Ah ha, I get it!” If a student understands the material thoroughly, they can solve a problem no matter how many different ways one can ask a question.
