I graduated from Swarthmore College Phi Beta Kappa in 2010 with a double major in Psychology and Cognitive Science. Currently, I am a Senior Research Assistant at Educational Testing Service, the company that makes the GRE and TOEFL and administers the SAT. I have been tutoring students of a variety of ages in an official capacity for seven years, including middle and high schoolers, college students, and adults. In addition, I have four younger sisters (ages 4, 5, 8, and 9) and one younger brother (age 20) that I have been helping with school work for many years. The primary subjects that I have tutored are reading and writing, ESL, math, computer skills, and basic Spanish and Italian.
I have completed two training courses: one to become a Writing Associate at Swarthmore College, and another to become a Literacy Volunteer of Mercer County. In the former course, I was trained to work with students at all stages of the writing process and in all disciplines, to develop students' analytical skills and confidence, and to provide students with strategies to apply to their future writing tasks. In order to become a Literacy Volunteer of Mercer County, I completed a course on adult basic education and English for speakers of other languages. I mastered how to develop and implement lesson plans, advance students' knowledge and skills, and evaluate and celebrate student progress.
