Hello all. My name is Jeremy. I tutor Basketball, Chess, Prealgebra, and Algebra I. I have had past tutoring experiences when I volunteered tutoring Math in my town. For Math, I like to give the student an opportunity to try the problems on their own and once they finish, I can go over the problems with them and see how well they do. It's about repetition and taking a step by step approach to find the solution. I am also encouraging of students who have found their own ways of solving a problem. In Math, there is more than one way to solve a problem and if they are more comfortable with their own method, that works just fine for me.
For Basketball, I was a 3 year starter in high school, where I had over 1,000 points in my career. The way I teach basketball is all about the basics, keeping things simple, and building repetition and consistency. For Chess, I used to go to school where they taught us stuff on Openings, Middle Game Tactics, and Endgame. I also worked at the ICA Chess School in my town. I played in some tournaments along the way and played well in those tournaments. My way of teaching Chess is to go over past games that students have played and analyze what they did well and some areas where they can improve.
Helping out students through creative methods has always been something that I have enjoyed doing. It's a great feeling to be able to help a student succeed and bring out the best of their abilities. Every person has their own way of learning and I want to help students develop consistency in solving problems and help them improve on struggles that they are currently encountering or will encounter in the future. This was the first time I ever got my son a tutor and was a little scared to have someone I didn't know tutor him. Jeremy was the best qualified that I saw and he fit my schedule. My son loved Jeremy's approach to problem solving and teaching. My son was very comfortable and happy with his lesson. He said he liked that Jeremy was able to simplify math problems which looked difficult. Jeremy made them look easy. Thank you, Jeremy! We'll see you after spring break.
Jeremy is great! My son went from failing a math test to 2 B's and an A on his last three test. Jeremy is always on time and when completing the lesson he explains to me what the lesson was on. He has great patients and know when my son is just not feeling up to it today, He somehow gets him energized to do the lesson for the day. Great motivator!
Jeremy was very thorough teaching my daughter how to play chess. He not only worked with her during the lessons, but he left materials with her to study afterward. I was impressed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I recently graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a degree in Accounting. Math is my favorite subject and I am very detailed when trying to solve a problem. I have done Math tutoring before as a volunteer in my town. It was part of Service Learning at my college and it was an enjoyable experience.
I have played basketball my entire life, which includes 3 years starting varsity for my high school. In high school, I accumulated over 1,000 points on my career as a power forward, who also has versatility as a guard. My method involves building consistency through repetition and helping young players develop their games and gain a higher intelligence for the game. It is all about the fundamentals and sticking to the basics along with having fun playing the game that you love.
I have worked at the ICA Chess School in my town, along with attending classes at the same school. Through their school, I have played in different Chess tournaments around New Jersey and have done well in those events. My way of teaching would be going over chess problems with students through analysis of position and allowing them the opportunity to solve the problem on their own. Tutoring would also include going over Openings, Middle Game Tactics, and Endgames as well.
I have done Math tutoring before as a volunteer in my town, where I helped kids develop a step by step approach to solving problems and helped build repetition and consistency. It was part of Service Learning at my college and it was an enjoyable experience.
My method involves a step by step approach to help the student develop consistency in solving different types of problems. I am also encouraging of students who have their own method of solving a problem. There is more than one way to solve a math problem, and I want the students to be comfortable with the method that they use to bring out the best of their abilities.
I played for my high school's varsity Soccer team for two years, where I played Goalie and Center Forward. I love to watch and play the game and see all the angles and plays develop. When it all comes together, it is truly an art form, and I enjoy using my skills to make that art form come to life. My method would involve developing the basics, from passing to dribbling to taking shots on goal. I would also throw in some juggling to help develop ball control. I want to help players get better and be able to enjoy the game as much as I do.
