You are a parent, concerned for your child's success in math and science. He or she may have a learning challenge or likes hands on work, or just need a boost in math and science. I am a full time integrated Art/Science Teacher which means I teach math and science through hands-on lessons. As we analyze and test and calculate, we are seeing, hearing and doing. In my classroom we explore MSA skills and knowledge through real-world simulations. We build cities from three-dimensional solids like cylinders and rectangular prisms. We design aerodynamic rockets and test our hypothesis on which rocket goes the highest. In this lesson we watch Newton's Second Law of Motion in action. We build playground equipment using simple machines like levers and ramps. That is only the beginning!
I am certified to teach math and science, grades K-8 and have coursework in classes such as chemistry, physics, earth science, biology, anatomy and physiology and astronomy and math through pre-calculus.
Tutoring for your child may involve project building, in some instances. In others, it will be more traditional.
Whether we build or use traditional methods, your child is bound to boost his learning!
I am a middle school science educator with coursework ranging from chemistry and physics to the life sciences to the earth and space sciences. I can help you analyze problems and interpret what you are being asked to do. The ACT test does involve a knowledge of how to set up a problem mathematically, but does not require much time spent on number crunching, so I will show you how to set problems up for solving. We will practice reading the many graphs and charts and hypothetical scenarios that the test will present. We will develop a way to store the information that is quick and accessible as needed.
We will prepare for success!
As a teacher, I have used Adobe Photoshop to scale and enhance photos for the school where I work. Photoshop has been right there at my side through every website I have designed, whether for Impact DC, social event organization, the Kesher Greengroup and more.
I ran a summer program called Digital Video Theater where students created two and three dimensional animations and prepared their images in Photoshop. So I have used it as well as taught children to use it.
I finished my Art and Animation Certificate from an accredited four year college back in 2010 and am always updating my skills through workshops.
I can help you build images for your website or teach you how to use it for fun on your own..
In Algebra I, we will sketch and draw while learning about the Foil method, We will use grid paper and draw to understand slopes and graphing, that is only the beginning. My hands on and creative method for teaching algebra can work for you!
Patient and resourceful, I will help make Algebra II easy for you; work at your pace or work on a deadline.
I took a year of Art History (I and II) in college. We covered artists ranging from the Stone Ages, through the Renaissance to the Modern and Post Modern Eras. I use Art History much of the time in my teaching by highlighting various artists and their lives to make Art for my students real.
I hold both MD and NJ certifications in Art education and have taught full time for 10 years in the public school system. I have had my work hung in local shows like the Women's National Democratic Club as well as local stores in the Rockville/Potomac MD area. I took a year of drawing in college where we covered most areas of drawing such as figure drawing (drawing the human body), landscapes, shading, color and more. In addition, I have taken Computer Art classes where I drew all manner of things on the computer as a second level of study of drawing.
I hold both MD and NJ certifications in Elementary Education, Middle School Science and Art education and am a trained reading recovery teacher. I have taught full-time for 10 years in the public school system. I regularly collaborate with the math and science teachers to keep my integrated arts learning program in line with state standards for math and science. My style of hands on teaching works for all but is perfect for kids struggling with abstract math and science learning.
As an Integrated Studies teacher I use art, building, construction and more to make math and science learning accessible for all. I have been developing my integrated curriculum for about 10 years and some of my lessons include cylinder and prism sculptures, Understanding Area with Matisse in Mind, and more.
We build models, draw pictures and chart progress to reward and motivate our math accomplishments. Prealgebra is the foundation for many subjects so we will take the time to learn it well. We will discuss applications of prealgebra to help make it more relevant.
I am the child of Israeli parents. I grew up speaking Hebrew and attended Hebrew School through the end of the 10th grade. I was a Torah leiner for Adas Israel Egalitarian Minyan as well as Kesher Israel's Women's Group. I took a year of Hebrew in college and spent several summers in Israel, including one as a volunteer teaching art at a Day camp for immigrants.
I am a certified Art teacher for grades K-12. In college, I took painting one and two, as well as studied painting in Art History I and II.
I am a sought after mural painter and have made murals for Trader Joes, my elementary school and synagogue.
I am a "hung" painter at the Women's National Democratic Club in Washington, DC.
Physical science is a combination of the basics of chemistry and physics. I deal with these daily in my job where I teach science through the use of the creative visual arts; I will show your child how to use pictures and instructional video, or even a hands on activity like I do at school, to help grasp concepts such as gravity, kinetic and potential energy, or inertia. Chemistry related concepts we work on include centrifugal and centripital force, understanding pH, or mastering the periodic table.
I can work with any child with any learning style and will keep the child engaged by employing the five senses as often as possible while moving toward understanding concepts.
I feel that when children move from concrete to abstract learning, they need to do so in a way that engages sights, sounds, even movement. We will color, tap and even move our way through probability, word problems and more.
I am certified in Elementary Education as well as Art, and Middle School Science Education. I have used art in order to teach and learn. For example, I draw notes as illustrations in order to remember them. in Teacher workshops, we learned to use mnemonic devices and color coding and other useful tips. In Reading Recovery (a year long workshop/class) we learned about identifying and teaching to different learning styles.
