French, as any other language, is more than just vocabulary and grammar, it is a culture. My way to get you immersed in that culture is to use an audio visual medium such as online French programs, newspaper, movies, depending on your interests. It will be the basis from which technical aspects of the language will be learned in context and therefore more easily remembered and used appropriately.
In addition or as an alternative, French books (classical literature as well as contemporary novels) can be used in a similar fashion. French is a very subtle language full of nuances that will make you think and express yourself differently in your own language once you get the hang of it.
In any case, I will also make sure that you speak while I am listening and helping you express yourself in French so to practice the language.
Away from that free range format of teaching more adapted to advanced students, I can also give the push that some students of French, whatever their level, may need at some point to get over a sudden blockage, or a disinterest in the language, or the idea that is too difficult, and make them stop struggling and start shining again in their French class or studies. This may just require a few couple of hours to get those students who find themselves stuck, running again and at a better speed.
Finally, I am open to online lessons-encounters using skype at a reduced rate when possible. I am also available via email to my students to answer their questions, give them help here and there, in between lessons at no extra charge.
I am a French native speaker still strongly in touch with French culture and literature although I have been in America for more than 20 years, where I moved with my family. We still speak French at home and my 3 children are bilingual. I have teaching experience in Psychiatry (Belgium), in Sociology and English Writing 101 (Rutgers University).
