I am a certified special education teacher with nine years of teaching experience and am highly qualified in science, math, and language arts. I currently hold an Elementary Teaching Certificate in addition to Teacher of Students with Disabilities. I graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in biology, and am pursuing a master's degree in special education. I successfully taught in grades 4 through 8 as a regular education teacher as well as a special education teacher.
My tutoring experience has been with students in grades 3 through 8, in reading, writing, and math. I have used the Orton Gillingham, Wilson, and Project Read programs with success, and can help your child learn to decode words by systematically associating sounds with letters. These specialized reading programs are multi-sensory, and have a strong success rate for kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners who may have a reading disability. Math is also taught using hands-on techniques and visual strategies, as well as mnemonic devices.
Students are instructed on an individual basis and provided with strategies that meet their needs and learning styles. I have excellent references available upon request and would be happy to provide them.
