My Profile: I have been tutoring for ten years. I am truly passionate about the subjects of writing and literature, and have two masters degrees. I love to help students succeed and have had great results. My talent is to make all material--whether SAT test prep, critical responses to literature, creative writing, etc.--palatable to each individual student by learning about the student and tailoring the educational approach. The end goal of any tutoring session is for a student to master the skills that she will have at her disposal for the rest of her life, skills that can make the difference in finding success. But, in my opinion, it is important for the path to skill mastery to be an enjoyable one. I am young at heart and it is my style to make the tutoring sessions fun.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I have many years' experience helping students write college admission essays for their applications. The best essays, no matter their length, tell compelling stories--which all applicants have. Compelling stories show conflict and growth through bravely facing that conflict. Compelling stories also utilize the features of strong narrative--i.e., sensory details and showing versus telling. I have had a lot of success helping students write their lives as compelling stories in the short spaces the applications allow, and I enjoy it because everyone's story is unique.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for 20 years and am currently in a rock cover band. We play in NY and NJ. I've had many guitar students over the years in a number of music genres: rock, jazz, folk, pop, etc. I have studied with some of the best jazz guitarists in NJ: Dave S., Vic J. I would love to teach guitar for WyzAnt students too.

ISEE

I've tutored the ISEE a number of times and have had success. In fact, all of the students I tutored for the ISEE were accepted into the private schools of their choice. As an SAT and ACT tutor with about 8 years of experience, I have no problem teaching students strategies for doing well on the ISEE. I hope you will consider me for ISEE tutoring.
