I have been teaching ESL for over 20 years, both in the classroom and as a tutor. I have also worked with students from many language backgrounds. I have taught as a profession and as a volunteer in the U.S. and overseas. I have experience teaching Business English to ex-pats and everyday English to students who want to improve their English skills and fluency. I earned a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the New School in New York, and also a Master's Degree from Columbia University in Russian language and literature.

I will assess a student's needs and create a lesson plan to focus on your goals in English. We can work on whatever areas you prefer: conversation, grammar, writing - it's really up to you! These classes are for you, to help you improve. Better English skills will give you greater opportunities socially and in your career, and I welcome the chance to help you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL for 20 years both in the classroom and as a tutor, and have successfully instructed students from many language backgrounds. Additionally, I have taught as a profession as well as in a volunteer capacity, in NY and as far away as the Philippines. In the Philippines, I volunteered with school children in the impoverished areas of Manila, but I also have experience teaching business English to Japanese ex-pats in the US. In addition to a Masters Degree from Columbia University in Russian language and literature, I possess a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the New School in New York.

I am able to assess a student's needs and develop a lesson plan specific to his or her background and education. We can concentrate mostly on your ability to communicate in English or focus on areas of particular concern, such as grammar or writing. We will approach the classes with your goals and interests in mind so that you get exactly what you require from the class . Learning English, or just fine-tuning what you already know, will present you with greater opportunities going forward and enhance your day-to-day life in the US. I welcome the chance to assist you.
