With over 2000 hours spent tutoring students in the last 3 years, I often hear comments like these: "She enjoys working with you!" and "His grades have improved!" I am experienced in working one-on-one with students in all elementary and middle school grades, as well as high school and adult students. The subjects I specialize in are elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, and all aspects of language arts, such as writing, grammar, reading, spelling. I can work with students on school assignments and projects, or I can provide material to help them master areas of difficulty. I can also help students to find clever ways to memorize and understand concepts.
My unique experience includes working with students in the classroom, as a private tutor, and as a homeschooling parent for 8 years. I like being creative and fun, while helping students to feel that they can do it! My kids made very good progress in their classes after only a semester of tutoring. Sheryl is very patient when kids are slow. Kids love her very much.
Our experience with Ms. Sheryl has been very limited and pleasant. We hired her only for a couple of sessions when there is time crunch. Unfortunately, before she adjusted to the schedule, our requirement came to an end. She is really a great teacher for elementary Math.
Sheryl is very good with my son, he has been gaining more confidence lately in school and doing better in tests.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have supervised, tested, and helped students in grades K-6 in all subject areas, my specialties are math and language arts, but have tutored and taught students in all subjects at the elementary level.
I have taught children in 1st-3rd grade to read using a phonics program that breaks down words into sounds. They are taught to read using these sounds and can read virtually any word, whether it is a familiar word or not. I have worked with this program in a classroom setting and with small groups of children and individuals. I have taught children as young as 4 years old to read using this method.
I have worked with students in grades 1 through 10 advising them on how to study for tests, by taking notes, highlighting areas in their books, keeping homework and quizzes to study from and on effective ways to study which will help them to retain information they have learned.
