I hold a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Walden University. I have been tutoring for the last three years. I offer one-on-one tutoring sessions with kindergarten through third grade students. I am state certified to teach and tutor k-5 reading, language arts and science. My favorite subject to tutor is reading. I enjoy teaching students how to decode new words, chunk consonants sounds, decode beginning, middle and ending sounds. I have fun teaching my students how to point to words in a pattern sentence, correspond the word with the picture and track the words across the page. My students love to make predictions about a story and retell the story using the picture and the title of the book. My students have also learned sight word proficiency using a sight word map, games and word wall activities where they acquire use of the sight word in isolation and within a sentence.
I have thirteen years classroom teaching experience in Kindergarten and Pre-kindergarten. I have also taught reading, writing and literacy courses at the community college level. I have also tutored adult students in basic literacy. I enjoy teaching repetition drills and substitution drills to English language learners and teaching them to speak conversational English. I am outgoing, friendly and dedicated to making your child an honor roll student! Tutoring provides me with an opportunity to see what type of learning style your child has and if I can match their learning style with learning materials and resources to make them a successful reader and speller. Each child learns at their own pace and my tutoring methods maximizes your child's potential by challenging their prior knowledge. They use phonics and phonemic awareness as building blocks to becoming a better reader! If this sounds like the right tutoring method to increase your child's reading performance and improve their grades, then I am definitely the right reading tutor for you!
