Hello,

I am a recent law school graduate and I work at a non-profit in Camden, New Jersey. I have extensive private tutoring experience: I became a certified writing tutor through the Rutgers University Writing Assistance Program while an undergraduate student at Rutgers-New Brunswick, and I was trained in the techniques of minimalist tutoring, as well as in areas such as English as a Second Language (ESL), grammar skills, remediation, and advanced research.

I tutored part-time while in law school, and created long-term relationships with individual students or several students in the same family. I am now looking to pick up a few more students.

I tend to work with families that need after-school assistance for one or more students on a regular basis (once a week, once every other week, etc.) I can provide homework help, or tutor in specific areas, including science, mathematics, history, and writing courses.

I also provide college and scholarship assistance for high school students. I can offer guidance and editorial services to students applying for college admission and scholarships. I am available to meet with a student through the college preparation and application process, or for one-off sessions to develop and improve application materials like essays and personal statements.

Finally, while I recommend that many students participate in a SAT-specific course, I can provide additional SAT/ACT tutoring.

I have two younger siblings and have formerly worked as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and camp counselor. I am experienced with entertaining and captivating younger students while educating them, and can work to motivate older students to complete and turn in their assignments and applications.

I can travel throughout Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia, and I schedule appointments one week in advance. References are available upon request.

I look forward to hearing from you, and exploring if I am a good match for you and your family!

College Counseling

I have tutored students preparing their college applications. I work with students to create their complete package: resumes, personal statements, essays, and writing samples. I identify each student's particular strengths and work to highlight his/her special attributes while also ensuring that all written materials utilize strong writing and grammar skills.

Social Studies

Many social studies curriculums present students with a mix of subjects, including lessons on social relationships, history, government, economics, civics, sociology, geography, and anthropology. I currently have a B.A. in Public Policy and Urban Planning, with a Minor in Economics and have an advanced understanding of history, government, economics, geography, and anthropology. Additionally, I volunteer for a civic-engagement program for high school students, and am current on civic issues affecting the young population. I can tutor students in the specific areas their school addresses, as well as help study for tests, enhance general study skills, and prepare homework assignments.

Study Skills

Study skills encompasses all of the skills that students need to efficiently and effectively manage their classes and comprehend subject matter. I work with students on organizing their schedules and their coursework, creating homework and test preparation plans, identifying time-wasters and learning time-savers, eliminating distractions, and multi-tasking. My students learn to balance multiple subjects or responsibilities while ensuring they learn subject material and complete assignments. Other tactics include more efficient study skills for reading comprehension, reading speed, and the writing process. Finally, I work with students to effectively communicate with their teachers/professors to deal with grades and extra credit assignments.
