Teaching high school is my second career. After working in industry for almost 20 years, I decided to change careers and help young people get as excited as I am over science. I have been teaching for 5 years now. I almost have enough credits for a second Masters degree!
My teaching experience includes working with students that have IEPs and learning disabilities all the way through to AP biology students. I love Biology and have taught that class ever year since starting teaching. I have also taught Comparative Anatomy, Geophysical Science (general chemistry/physics), Earth and Space Science, and Human Anatomy/Physiology.
I am a firm believer in teaching students to the way they learn. I try to include oral, visual, and hands-on exercises so that the student can learn in the way they best understand.
Lastly, I have been to several conferences regarding the NJ End of Course Biology Competency Test. This standardized test will eventually be used to determine if a student has learned enough in Biology to graduate high school. I have proctored the test several times and my immediate supervisor is heavily involved in the test's make up. She travels to Trenton frequently and updates her staff as necessary so that our students can excel on the test.
