I am a fully certified English teacher in the states of New York and New Jersey. I am currently working on certification in Connecticut.

In addition to English, I can also tutor subjects such as biology, chemistry and US history. I can also tutor your child in test prep basics, such as the 8th grade ELA and math tests in New York and the NJ ASK in New Jersey. For those of you in high school, I can tutor you for the SAT of in New York City, the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test).

Prealgebra

Prealgebra includes such topics as fractions, setting up equations, and doing simple algebraic equations, all of which are commonplace on such standardized exams as the GED, GRE, SAT and SHSAT in New York.

My method includes drills and repeated practice. It is through this that understanding is gained so that these skills become second nature.

GRE

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is used by graduate schools as a criteria for admission. It consists of four sections in five parts and is almost exclusively given on the computer. It is a computer adaptive exam, meaning that the questions adapt to the test taker.

Elementary (K-6th)

One of my teaching certifications is from pre-k to 12th grade, which means that I can teach a child anywhere from the age of 4 to the age of 18. I have tutored people as young as eight and as old as fifty. Kids do, however, require a bit more effort to keep them focused, and that is where I am different from the rest. I have taught classes with as many as 46 children at once.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught non-native speakers of English for several years, mainly to groups whose first language is Spanish and Chinese, although I have some experience with students whose first language is Russian, French and Arabic. The key to my students' success is to engage their conversational skills. I can teach them thousands of words, but until they get the chance to practice what I have taught them, the knowledge sits idle.

Public Speaking

I have developed my own public speaking curriculum as well as taught public speaking skills for four years. I give my students honest critiques from which they learn not only what they need to improve, but what they are already doing correctly so they can improve faster.

Aspergers

In addition to training to become a special educator (I graduate in December 2012), my own nephew has Aspergers. In addition, several of my former students had this condition, so I know how to work with a student that has it. The most important part of a program for anyone with Aspergers is routine. Following a set routine ensures success.

CBEST

I can tutor students in the CBEST, which is the California teacher certification exam. It is virtually identical in form and content to the NYSTCE, on which I got the 91st percentile.

Praxis

I have passed several of the PRAXIS teacher certification examswith a score of at least 80 percent, which makes me uniquely qualified to teach students who are struggling with this exam.

The PRAXIS is used as a teacher certification exam in just about every state in the United States. I not only did that, but I also got a Regents diploma with honors because my average regents exam score was a 93 out of 100.
