I grew up watching my mom tutor math and language arts and hearing her talk about how much she enjoyed helping others learn and also helping them love to learn. At Stanford, I was able to experience that for myself as I tutored middle and high school students in math and science. Now that I have my own children, five total from 12 down to 2, I've really enjoyed helping them learn and master concepts that they think at first that they just can't get.
As I tutor, I work patiently with my students to ensure that they understand why their answers are correct, as opposed to learning "tricks" to solve various problems. I do expect that the students (or their parents)will have an idea of skills they want to master or deficiencies that they wish to remedy.
I love to read history and biography in my spare time, and am as at home tutoring history, civics, and social studies as I am with math, science, and reading comprehension.
I am available evenings and Saturdays, but not Sundays. Happy to meet at your home, at a local library, or at my home. I do require a 24 hour cancellation notice but I will work with students to make up lessons.
I look forward to meeting my new students and seeing their eyes light up as they master subjects that had previously stumped them.
I have an MBA from Rutgers where I took two accounting courses. I got A's in both courses. I informally tutored other students in cost accounting and activity based accounting principles, helping them improve their understanding and their grades.
I have an MBA from Rutgers (class of 2009, magna cum laude). I've worked as a project manager on jobs up to $25M / year off and on for the past 15 years. I'm active in INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences and on the organizing committee for their yearly Analytics (i.e. Business Intelligence, i.e. BI) Conference and co-chair of the poster session there.
When I took the GMAT in 2005, I scored 750 out of 800. I also scored a 6/6 on the analytical writing portion. I prepared for the exam by doing practice exams and can easily teach that method to anyone.
I graduated from Stanford University in 1998 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. During my coursework I often informally tutored classmates in thermodynamics, rigid body dynamics, fluid dynamics, and compressible and incompressible flow. I have 7 years of direct mechanical engineering experience in thermodynamics, power plant design, and heat transfer analysis.
1) My own score (1991) was 760 out of 800.
2) SAT Math, which is basic algebra and geometry through trigonometry, fits right in with my work as a mechanical engineer.
3) The SAT with its emphasis on recognition of problem types fits well with my tutoring philosophy of "Practice makes routine, perfect practice makes perfect." I work with students to help them get used to the test format and the day itself, and to patch gaps in their knowledge so that as they practice, they are practicing properly.
Good to work with. — Thanks for helping me understand some of the concepts of accounting. You helped out a great deal. Thanks and ready to meet again. Thanks also for understanding. ...
