Reading Specialist/Elementary Education Tutor

Hello,

I earned an Elementary Education Degree with a minor in English from Rowan University. I then returned to receive an M.A. in Reading, with a Reading Specialist Certificate. For your information, I have taught K-College and am presently teaching at two community colleges in the area in the areas of reading and writing. I tutor younger students in Reading. I have a proven track record of increasing reading levels in below-level and on-level readers, and an ability to move between grade levels and assignments without difficulty. I also have experience with at-risk students with medical, emotional and behavioral issues. Using state testing assessment grading experience, I can also assist students with decoding testing instructions and provide methods to use while taking standardized testing for improved results.

My original degree is a B.A. in Elementary Education, with a minor in English. Phonics

As a Reading Specialist, I have been trained in diagnosing reading phonics difficulties in students by using tests such as the Bader and the QRI IV to pinpoint where students are having difficulty in vocabulary/phonics. I have learned the best strategies to aid students in developing these areas by using specific best practices for each area.

Study Skills

I have worked for two different standardized test development companies in the areas of reading, math, and writing. Using this assessment grading experience, I assist students with decoding testing instructions and provide methods to use while taking standardized testing for improved results.
