My background is in Engineering and related fields including Mathematics and other related topics such as Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, SAT Math, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Physics, and Earth Sciences. Literacy is an important element of teaching and occurs in all subjects, so I am also very competent and confident as an SAT Reading tutor. I am currently seeking a career path as a Math and/or Science teacher, and I have passed the two Praxis II exams in Mathematics Content Knowledge and Middle School Mathematics that are required to teach Mathematics at any level between Kindergarten and 12th grade. In addition, I have passed the Praxis II exams in Physics Content Knowledge and General Science Content Knowledge that are required to teach Physical Sciences at those same grade levels. In fact, the State of Jersey Department of Education has issued me a Certificate of Eligibility as a Teacher of Mathematics and as a Teacher of Physics, which permits me to serve as a Professional Educator in New Jersey public schools. I am very proud that I have attained this goal, and I am looking forward to a long and rewarding career in teaching, both in the classroom and as a personal, private tutor. I am a very frequent guest teacher in middle school, including Math and Science, and my experience working in school with students certainly guides me in my tutoring philosophies, and understanding current curriculum and learning objectives.
Tutoring is a wonderful experience that is very gratifying because it is a chance to work individually with a student to develop their intellectual independence. It is a chance to establish trust and to supply the student with specific habits and skills that will ease the student's ability to adapt to challenges of particular subjects or the teaching style of a given classroom teacher. One of the most interesting and rewarding aspects of tutoring is test preparation. All of my students have done extremely well on their class tests, entrance tests, and other standardized tests after working with me. I offer valuable insight and guidance to my students who may have test taking anxiety, as well as strategies and methods to recall key concepts and reinforce understanding.
I enjoy the challenges and applications of Math and Science to everyday situations and incorporating these into lessons. I also have coached many kids successfully in recreation program sports such as baseball, tee ball, basketball, and soccer. I have a New Jersey Youth Soccer Association "F" license, and I have been a Head Coach of a girls travel soccer team for a soccer club. I also have been the Head Coach of a Girls Softball team in my borough. It is very rewarding for me to work with kids and they always seem to respond positively to my methods and motivational techniques. My tutoring methods are based on determining and assessing the source of a student's needs and focusing on positive reinforcement. Solutions to problems and analysis of topics are mastered by applying logic, step by step processing, and introducing strategies that can assist quickly when used repetitively. I believe in developing a deeper understanding of the topic through comparisons and applications, and presenting the lesson in an interesting way so the student is involved and motivated.
I prefer to have students understand the material thoroughly and not simply memorize. Repetition and understanding the means to the end are always essential keys to successful results. These principles are applied to coaching and instructing kids in sports as well. I would greatly welcome the opportunity to work with your child to assist them in reaching their potential and being a positive role model. I am also a parent and I can assure you I will treat your child with care and respect, be courteous and attentive to them, and instill them with confidence and strategies for success.
