With two children of my own, I understand the difficulties kids have in grasping math concepts. While earning my BS at Boston University, and my MS at Rochester Institute of Technology, both in Computer Engineering, I tutored both college students and area elementary/high school students in math and computer science.
Most children struggle with math since it looks different (numbers instead of letters), and they don't know when/if they are getting the right answer. I make learning math fun by going beyond the numbers (and symbols for the Algebra students) and applying everyday situations to help explain difficult math concepts. I will also not tell my students whether they got the right answer; I will teach them methods to verify their own work so they can prove, both to me and themselves, that they got the right answer. Being able to apply math concepts to their daily routines and boosting their confidence will produce children who are no longer adverse to doing math.
With older children, and adults entering/returning to the work-force, I firmly believe that excelling in the job market requires computer programming skills. I have successfully tutored college students and older co-workers on basic computer programming concepts. I am proficient in Python, Perl, SQL, and HTML.
