Sorbonne University (french literature)
Universite d'Evry (Master's)
My name is Lisa, I am a French native and I studied French literature at La Sorbonne in Paris. After graduating from La Sorbonne, I completed a master in Performing Arts in France as well. I tutored French students for many years and worked as an artistic agent in Paris. Therefore I can share a lot about the French culture and customs. I worked very closely with artists and musicians for 4 years before moving to the U.S. in 2004. I currently work at an art agency in Princeton where I manage French illustrators.
Knowing how challenging it is to learn a new language, I can adapt my lessons depending on your requirements and teach conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, literature and French culture. I can also help you with homework, review for a test or prepare for the French AP and SAT exams. I am also familiar with the French Praxis exam: World Language 5174.
I worked for 2 years at the French Institute in NYC with children, teenagers and adults, and I have been tutoring students from various Middle Schools and High Schools in the Princeton area for the past 6 years.
All levels welcome! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Lisa started working on French with my daughter when she transferred to a new school in the 8th grade and the French was more advanced than her prior school. By the end of that year my daughter won the French award at graduation! From your very first meeting with Lisa you will know that she is something special. She is professional, dedicated, punctual and very accommodating to scheduling changes that came up from after school activities. She is also very positive and built up my daughter's confidence. I recommend Lisa - she is a first class tutor and person!
I met with Lisa once per week from September through December. I was a beginner level student and very much enjoyed our sessions. I was very happy to be taught by a native speaker and I learned a great deal including some knowledge of French culture and customs. Lisa was very calm and patient. She provided a good learning environment including a number of study aides via computer.
I recommend Lisa as a French tutor par excellence.
My son took more than a dozen French lessons from Lisa in the last two months. Lisa is a very responsible and competent French teacher. And she is great to work with! We are very happy with Lisa's work. First, Lisa asked about the individual needs of my son at the beginning and then planned lessons accordingly. Second, she sent my son homework after each lesson and graded the homework together with my son in the following session - an example of thoughtful teaching. Third, she sent "lesson review" immediately after each lesson which was very helpful to both the student and the parent. In addition, when I contacted Lisa with questions, her response was always prompt. Lastly, my son will be a high school junior at an academically challenging prep school. Lisa was able to tutor according to the school's French curriculum and worked with my son in conversation, grammar, reading comprehension, and essay - everything I expected from a high-quality language tutoring. I highly recommend Lisa.
Lisa's native language is French and she is extremely passionate about teaching French. She is very professional, patient, organized, punctual and motivates students. She has helped my daughter complete her high school AP French curriculum within her junior year. Lisa has a very pleasant attitude and I believe her students like her adjusting style. I have no hesitation in recommending her to teach French.
I appreciate the effort to evaluate my knowledge since I have never had formal instruction. I also appreciate the documentation for rules concerning the passe compose. I look forward to the next lesson to strengthen this as well as the rules for adjectives. As you have seen this is a weakness that I have.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Having taught French to students from 5 years old to adults, beginners to advanced, I use a lot of different methods and I like mixing oral and written expression, as well as oral and reading comprehension. French grammar can be a challenge for students, but I love explaining it, from past tenses to subjunctive, from pronouns to partitives!
Whether you love the language or you struggle with it, my goal is to keep the lesson as fun as possible and make you comfortable, in class, at work or during your trip!
