I have always had a passion for math and enjoy sharing it with others. This passion led me to major in mathematics during college, and I continued to study math in graduate school where I earned my master's in computational and applied mathematics. I recently earned my PhD in the same field. I have experience with tutoring, as I tutored college athletes and other college students for four years. I have also taught various other students of all ages and levels (K-12), for standardized test preparation in particular.
I teach with the goal of building confidence. So many students struggle with math because they have been trained to memorize formulas and after a while it just stops making sense. Rather than simply teaching HOW to solve problems, I focus on teaching WHY they are solved that way. I give the big picture and then give the specifics so that students really understand. This allows the students to gain a deeper understanding of concepts so that the ideas can be applied to a larger range of questions. In my experience, this is what works and I have seen tremendous growth in every student I've tutored. I find these breakthroughs very rewarding and look forward to helping you!
