I've taught in the Peace Corps for 4+ years (St. Vincent, West Indies & Fiji, South Pacific), as well as several years here in NJ; this included General/Basic Math through and including Algebra & Geometry. In addition to my B.S. in Math, I have a B.A. in Political Science and hold a Permanent Secondary (H.S.) Teaching Certificate in Mathematics.

Algebra 1

We will start with some fundamental/basic math that we can use to "develop" Algebraic concepts.
WE will "solve" problems more by understanding them, than by just "doing the math" to get an answer.

Algebra 2

First by ensuring a solid foundation in Basic Math and Algebra I, we will then work on "new" material as necessary. I will try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships ... leading to HOW to think about solving the problem at hand.

The goal will be to "solve" problems by understanding them, instead of just "doing the math" to get an answer.

Geometry

Geometry requires a "logical" approach to problem solving; it doesn't rely on "method" as much as considering all the relevant information. I will try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships.

Proofs tend to be a major stumbling block for many students, and my approach helps to overcome this "new" concept.

Prealgebra

Our first objective will be to strengthen Basic Math skills in a way that will prepare the student for current & future subject areas (Algebra, Geometry, etc.). I will try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships.

A main goal will be linking past skills with current/future skills.

SAT Math

My experiences teaching many different math classes (subjects & levels) allow me to analyze most SAT problems in ways that don't rely on "methods" alone. I try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships.

I will also include test taking techniques useful in passing the SAT.

GED

My experiences teaching a variety of subject areas (including Basic Math) will help link together many seemingly unrelated problems. I will try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships.

Our goal will be to understand the problems, not just "doing the math" to get an answer. I will also include test taking techniques useful in passing the GED.

Probability

Simple probability requires a "mind's eye" approach, a way to mentally visualize the events. I will try to find new and intuitive ways to explore problems, ideas and relationships.

Elementary Math

I have taught various math subjects and levels; including General Math, Basic Math, Industrial Math, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry and Trigonometry. I have a B.S. degree in Mathematics and a Secondary School Teaching Certificate. I have also tutored at several levels, including for the GED and SAT.
