I have a 5 year integrated Master's degree in Rehabilitation Science and Special Education in which I specialized in the educational and vocational rehabilitation of the visually impaired, hearing impaired and mentally challenged. Besides these, I also specialized in learning disability and ADHD. As far as my professional experience is concerned, the first 5 years, I taught in the same college various subjects covered in the same degree that I completed which includes learning disability as well. Then the next 6 years I worked as a principal of a middle school in which many students with learning and attention problems were also enrolled. So I was instrumental in sensitizing and training the regular teachers towards the assessment and individualized education of these challenged students. I initiated an after school academic support instruction for them to enable them cope better in academics with other children. I customize the learning strategies to suit the learning needs of each and every individual child.
As for educational background, I have a master's in Rehabilitation Science and special education. Later in my career when I was working as principal of a middle school, I taught almost all subjects from grade 1 until middle school at various points of time. And I have also guided my team of teachers in handling difficult topics. Apart from that I have personally sat with students who weren't able to cope in class and needed some more extra coaching on a periodic basis. I have also tutored many students in elementary schools in the after hours of my job. Currently I am trying to get into the public school system in NJ as a teacher. I have also volunteered in different school systems like Montessori and the public school system through last year to get an insight into the various strategies adopted in teaching. My patience and perseverance in teaching students and clearing their doubts without becoming judgmental helps them progress at their own pace with confidence.
I have tutored math for children from kindergarten to eighth grade. I enjoy devising easy techniques to make difficult math problems easier and more simpler to solve. I help students by giving them strategies to remember the methodology which can be used.
I have taught science for middle school students as part of school curriculum. I have also tutored children in science during the after school hours. It is one of the subjects that ignites a passion for a lifetime of learning. My knowledge of science stems from doing science as one of my school majors and from my integrated masters degree which covers many science and its related areas during college graduation.
I have around 6 years of experience in training both individual and groups of students in creative writing skills like essay writing, story writing, summary writing, precise writing, paragraph writing, dialogue writing, etc as part of the school English literary club activities. Out of my 12 years of experience as an English teacher and tutor, I am proud to say that I have trained mostly students whose primary language is not English. As a person whose primary language wasn't English, I am aware of the challenges faced and the strategies to conquer them. As I am multilingual, I can help students who don't even have a fundamental knowledge of the language to foreign students/working professionals who find it difficult to thrive in an English only world. The students' increased understanding of English helps them to cope and also excel in a variety of situations ranging from school, college and workplace.
I have taught English for middle school students for nearly 6 years and given after school tutoring in language arts for more than 12 years. Since I wanted my students to be flawless in their language, I have consistently insisted on grammar skills as the basis for language skills. I like to teach grammar by classifying and categorizing it using tabular columns and schematic patterns to compare and contrast, making it less confusing and more clear.
I have given many one to one tutoring for phonics to small kids for almost four years now. I learnt phonics as part of my effective communication/English syllabus during my graduation. But I improvised on it, mostly through self learning. So I understand greatly the challenges one can face while learning phonics and how to master it with ease. I have taught phonics to kids whose primary language isn't English and is their second language. Apart from that, I also trained kindergarten teachers of our school where I worked as principal in teaching phonics to kindergartners.

English is a subject that I have been passionate about and have taught for about 12 years. It precipitated my quest for knowledge in English and kindled my love of reading. The knowledge generated thereby, adds power to my conversations and writing. This made me initiate reading lessons for my students also for improving the pace, diction and comprehension of the materials being read. I believe that a teacher succeeds in her job when she creates a love for reading in the child. Knowledge is power and it is achieved only through impeccable reading skills which can be developed systematically.

Spelling is one of the trickiest things of English language. If one knows the nuances of it, it can become an asset for writing and improve the overall grades in language arts or it can just remain a challenge. I had always been proficient in spelling and I have experience of teaching spelling, during my English classes which I handled for 12 years. I teach spelling through phonics, syllabification and chunking of words. I start from the known words proceeding to the unknown and more difficult words. But for students who are having a tough time with their spellings, I devise my own creative strategies for teaching spelling.
Vocabulary is that part of language which makes one's speech and writing rich and deep in meaning. But dearth of vocabulary cripples one's language to the extent that even great ideas find no expression. So vocabulary building is one of the essential and vital aspects of language acquisition. Though it is a lifelong process, it is very helpful at least during the initial years of language learning to focus on learning new and later challenging words to strengthen comprehension. I have taught vocabulary building as part of language instruction for 12 years to school students.
