One of the basic principles of good ESOL
teaching is making sure that a student CAN succeed.
• How to encourage students to learn and look forward to English language
• How to procure their best work and keep them eager and happy doing it?
I am a TEFL/TESOL ESL
teacher, certified through the International TEFL Academy and INTESOL Worldwide Organization
. I teach American English grammar
, phonetics and vocabulary
. Using various techniques, I focus attention on pronunciation and accent reduction which are so vital for successful communication. My goal is to help students accomplish this and have confidence when speaking. One of my techniques I use is teaching students how to listen to the spoken word to gain better pronunciation. Over time, students learn to differentiate the native speaker from the non-native speaker in order to mirror only the best pronunciation. Also, where possible, I like to do field trips to museums and shopping malls or local historical sights as a practical way for students to gain confidence with language learning; here they integrate themselves into daily life situations and get a chance to practice English in a coached setting as they interact with others.
Self-esteem is very key to language learning. As an ESL teacher, I encourage students to share opinions and feelings about daily life in the States. I focus my teaching on recognizing where blocks to learning may have developed and help them to offset those blocks with a personalized approach along with appropriate techniques to overcome them. As an additional benefit, due to 25 years of extensive working experience in Wall Street’s financial sector, I also coach students on how to adapt to the American working environment and how to ease themselves into its culture. Previously, I’ve helped students with job application procedures as well as coaching for successful job interviewing.
As an ESL teacher, it's a privilege to teach those who wish to learn English at almost any level -- beginner, intermediate or advanced -- to help them gain skill, confidence and improve their quality of life through good English language communication.
