Having earned a Master's Degree, I understand the value of a great education. One hopes that through a great education, he/she will one day establish a career path of choice. However, to get to that point, getting the fundamentals down is quite critical. I have been actively participating in volunteering programs such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, where I really like to spend time with the students in hope to help them realize what they can achieve. I understand that not every child learns in the same fashion, and rather at times, unique teaching methods are necessary.
I tutored a young boy once struggling in elementary mathematics. While his parents were encouraging, I felt that he really just needed someone that believed in him. I tried to instill that feeling into him as much as I could as I tutored him. The next marking period, his mother came up to me to thank me because he went from a D+ to a B+ in mathematics. Of course I was ecstatic! I was happy that he had done so well, but more importantly, I was glad that he realized he could do something like this.
I love these experiences! I hope to have many more.
