My name is Sandrine, I am a Chemistry major at Montclair State University, I will graduate with my Bachelor in Chemistry in May 2012. I speak three languages very well: French, Spanish and English. I am a young girl who is nice, very friendly, and respectful. I do not tolerate disrespect and the use of bad language while tutoring.
I have been a math and chemistry tutor at Essex County College for 2 years and a Supplemental Instructor in basic mathematics for 3 years now. I have helped a lot of students not being scared of science by making my tutoring session fun, down to earth and very friendly in order for the student to feel comfortable and free to ask me as many questions as possible.
The fact that I am also a student is a plus because I know the type of pressure one undergoes especially when taking science classes. During my tutoring sessions I adapt my technique depending on the needs of the student, but in general I discuss with them and try to know what and why they do not understand something. We do the homework together in the sense that I let them read, and give it a try on their own before I intervene by guiding them but not solving it. I tend to check their work in every steps they take, once they are done I go over it with them to check the final answer and point out the errors if they are.
I dislike when my student take me for a smart cookie and are intimidated by me. We are the same, the only difference is that some people like me really love science. I really hope that we will have joyful tutoring sessions remember science was create to solve problems not to create them.
