As the director of a prominent learning center with over four years of experience in instructing students on the SAT, and as a former teacher of college-level Literature and Composition, I know how to help motivated students become better readers and writers. By teaching both strategies for approaching the test and improving students' fundamental skills through a customized curriculum, I can help students achieve better results on the SAT Reading and Writing tests.

In my curriculum, I utilize the College Board's SAT prep book, accumulated practice tests, and supplementary materials that I have compiled myself. I tailor my methods and curriculum to the needs of each student based on a preliminary interview and the progress of our sessions. I also empower students to choose the direction their sessions will take, emphasizing the skills they would like to improve.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have over three years worth of experience tutoring students in the ACT English section. My lessons focus on the grammatical errors most common on the ACT and on providing students with the skills and resources to write a successful ACT essay.

ACT Reading

I have over three years of experience in tutoring students for the ACT Reading section. I emphasize both testing strategies and fundamental reading and vocabulary skills to help students not only perform better on the test, but be overall better readers and students.

English

My BA and Ed.M degrees are in English Literature and English education, respectively, and I have spent the last four years teaching literature at the secondary and post-secondary level. I have a strong grasp of English grammar concepts and rhetoric, and can comfortably instruct students in grammar, syntax and rhetoric.

Grammar

Via both my educational background and my experience as a teacher of college-level Literature and Composition, I have a great deal of experience writing, proofreading, editing, and grading students' written work. I have a thorough understanding of English grammar rules and the resources to develop a custom grammar curriculum for any student.

ISEE

With my background as an English teacher and as a director of a prominent learning center, I have the content-area knowledge and test-preparation experience necessary to prepare students for the ISEE.

Literature

As a former AP Literature and Composition instructor, I am well versed in instructing students in literary analysis and composition. I instruct students on how to be better readers, how to connect texts to each other and to the greater human canon, and how to compose thoughtful analyses of works of literature.

Proofreading

Via both my educational background and my experience as a teacher of college-level Literature and Composition, I have a great deal of experience writing, proofreading, editing, and grading students' written work. With this experience, I am confident in my ability to help any student create written work that meets his or her teachers' expectations.

SAT Reading

In my day job, I train tutors in strategies to help students achieve 700+ scores on the SAT Critical Reading and Writing sections and have myself have scored multiple 700-800 scores on both sections.

I have over four years of experience in tutoring students for the SAT Critical Reading and Writing sections. I have found great success by emphasizing both testing strategies and fundamental reading and vocabulary skills to help students not only perform better on the test, but become overall better readers and students, a point that often gets lost on SAT preparation.

SAT Writing

I have over three years' worth of experience tutoring students in the SAT Writing section. My lessons focus on the grammatical errors most common on the SAT and on providing students with the skills and resources to write a successful SAT essay.

Writing
