Elizabeth’s qualifications in specific subjects below.
I have been teaching Art and Spanish for the past 2 years but have been creating my entire life, since childhood. I have designed and produced back drops for several events at my school, including Christmas and school plays, talent shows, and others.
I studied design at Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, NY, and I currently teach Art to students in grades K-8. In class we cover different aspects of art and design, including the elements of art (i.e. line, color, shape, texture, etc.) & principals of design (i.e. contrast, hue, balance, etc.) and apply them to fun and interesting projects based on grade and ability. We use a variety of age-appropriate materials including specialized drawing pencils/graphite, markers, chalk/oil pastels, printmaking, water color and tempera paint, paper mache', clay, wire, paper, to list a few. Projects incorporate a variety of lesson topics including different types of art and artists, to upcoming seasons and holidays.
Individual or private sessions would obviously consider age and ability when teaching elements of art, demonstrating the basics of drawing/design, painting, color mixing, etc., and would naturally be geared to the goal and focus of the prospective student.
Improving difficulties in many subjects generally means making use of language skills and the ability to express ourselves well in English.
I can help you to improve your comprehension and use of grammar, verbs, and writing skills including: essays, compositions, term papers, test preparation, and more.
I work with students who are having difficulty in various areas of English, from grade school to college, including adult learners who want help to improve their verbal communication skills for personal or professional reasons.
Don't hesitate to ask for further information. I look forward to helping you succeed!
I have been working with native and non-native speakers in all aspects of English and ESL for more than 8 years. I like to offer the option of an initial meeting (at no charge) to get acquainted with the students and identify their specific difficulties. Because every student and their needs differ, we'll talk about a potential tutoring plan that works for them and proceed from there.
I can help you improve in any area of English from grammar and pronunciation to reading, writing, and verbal communication.
I have tutored all aspects of grammar in English, ESL and Spanish. "Grammar" is a broad category which covers everything including parts of speech like nouns, verbs of all tenses, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, etc. and their proper usage; correct and concise sentence structure, phrasing, etc.
These are the building blocks to good essay writing and story telling. Because these are areas of strength for me, I enjoy the challenge of teaching and facilitating correct use of grammar in speech and writing assignments. Students from elementary school through college and beyond that need help improving their grammar and/or those who have difficulty writing are welcome. We can work on anything from basic book reports, essays, lengthy compositions or term papers- or whatever you need!
I have been teaching Art for the past 2 years but have been creating my entire life, since childhood. I studied design at Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, NY.
I have designed and produced several back drops for events at my school including Christmas and school plays, talent shows, and others. Larger pieces are painted on 12x15' drops; final work is done mainly using acrylics, although tempera, pastel/oil pastel, & torn paper have also been combined.
In personal work, I enjoy a broad variety of styles and media but am particularly fond of watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint. I'm currently, teaching Art to grades K-8. I teach different types/styles of art, elements of art and design, and a variety of of media, at age/grade appropriate levels.
Painting in K-8 generally includes watercolor, tempera, & possibly acrylics; watercolor and tempera are versitle for any age and a variety of lessons.
Individual or private sessions would obviously consider age and ability in addition to teaching/ demonstrating the basics of drawing/design, painting, color mixing, styles of painting, etc., and would naturally be geared to the goal and focus of the prospective student.
I currently teach Spanish to grades pre-K to 8. In addition, I have been tutoring Spanish (and ESL) to students at elementary and high school levels, as well as college and adult students, for the past 7+ years.
Generally, I meet with students prior to an actual lesson (see my profile for more info on this). When we first meet, I always ask about the student's grade level, prior knowledge of Spanish and what's being covered in class at the moment. Next is to find out what difficulties you're having and where you're in need of the most assistance - now.
-Struggling with verbs, grammar, pronunciation?
-Worried about an upcoming exam?
-Lost in class & need to catch up to avoid falling further behind?
-Planning a trip & need some brushing-up on communication skills?
No two students are the same and personal tutoring is all about your individual needs. However, each new level holds new (predictable) challenges that are fairly consistent among English-speaking students. Whether it's a little practice you need or some serious reviewing, with some basic reviews & helpful hints we'll get the ball rolling.
Feel free to contact me at your convenience to discuss personal tutoring needs/scheduling.
