Hello! My name is Christine, and I am a current 6th grade math teacher. I have taught in the classroom for the past 11years (9 years in 7th grade and 2 years in 6th grade) and have been tutoring math from Pre-k through Calculus for the past 15 years. I have my Bachelors in Elementary Education from West Chester University and my Masters in Mathematics Education from Widener University. I also hold New Jersey and Pennsylvania teaching certificates from Kindergarten through high school. My family of now five and I reside in Mullica Hill. My husband and I have a five year old (going on 20), a three year old and a one year old, along with our first born, our dog.
As a teacher, I believe in a balanced based approach between the "new math" and traditional teaching methods. I believe students understand math better when they see the real-life application of it in the real world. But, I also whole-heartedly believe the basics are essential. I am very up to date on the new Common Core Standards at all levels and was a member of the curriculum revision team in the school district where I am employed. I am also familiar with MAPS tests and ASK (soon to be PARCC) testing. Depending on the level of math and the personality of each student, I teach using many different teaching styles and math programs such as Everyday Math, Connected Math, PMI and traditional text books.
As a mother of three, I know what it is like to place your trust in someone to care for your child. Therefore, I treat every student as I would want my children to be treated. I am stern but caring, serious but fun, and nurturing but have high expectations of all of my students.
Together as a team, you and I can help your child to do his or her best. I look forward to working with you and your child!
